The Easiest Thing You Can Do to Lose Weight

Here’s something I hear from almost every single new client:

“I want to stop eating when my body tells me I’ve had enough, but I just can’t stand to waste food.”

Sound familiar?

The intentions behind this are amazing – no one wants to waste. We’re all just out here trying to be good human beings, right?

But what if those last two or three bites are the very thing standing in the way of your weight loss this week?

Lack of weight loss isn’t always obvious. It doesn’t always come from decadent meals or late-night binges.

Often, it’s a result of overeating *just a little bit* at every single meal.

Think about it – 3 more bites than your body needs at breakfast, lunch, and dinner over the course of the week adds up to 63 bites! That’s several extra meals per week that your body doesn’t even need!

And yet we convince ourselves to cram in those last few bites in the moment because we don’t want to “waste” food.

So, we waste our chance at easy weight loss instead.

Challenge yourself on this.

Start to question who really benefits from you eating those last few forkfuls of pasta or the crust of that sandwich. Who are you helping by having those last few spoonfuls of breakfast when your body is telling you it’s all set.

Anyone?

We can also challenge the idea that throwing away those last few bites wastes food at all. It might in the short-term, but, once you get used to using The Hunger Scale and listening to your body (instead of an empty plate) to determine when you’ve had enough food, you learn what a realistic portion size for you actually looks like.

You start to buy less, prepare less, and serve yourself less because you discover exactly how much food is right for you.

So you’ll waste some food as you learn about your body and what it needs, but overall you’ll be saving plenty of food (and money!) by ending the habit of buying and serving yourself more than your body actually needs.

So, next time you’re finishing up a meal, check in with your body.

Are you feeling physically satisfied? Do you suspect that you’ve eaten enough to go 3-4 hours before getting hungry again? If so, you’re probably ready to stop, even if there’s still food on your plate.

You can totally save what’s left and enjoy it later. And, if it’s not worth saving, you get to decide what throwing away those last few bites means about you.

You could make it mean that you’re wasting food OR you could make it mean that you’re learning about yourself and honoring your body’s needs.

I highly suggest the latter 😊
