Why Can’t You Lose Weight?? (and how to hack your brain to stay on track)

When you stop beating yourself up for not doing things perfectly and challenge yourself to brainstorm ideas for how you can make it work going forward, you tap into the creative part of your brain where all the solutions lie.

What would it do for your weight loss to stay in the mindset of finding solutions every time we want to beat ourselves up?  Imagine where you’d be a few weeks, months, or years from now….

Such a tiny mental shift could have a HUGE impact on your results.

It looks like this:

Why do I always end up eating junk?? → Becomes: How can I eat a little less of the stuff that doesn’t fuel my body and a little more of the stuff that does?

Ideas:

  • Serve yourself a few more veggies and a little less of the other stuff

  • Snack on chips AND an apple

  • Order a side salad with your favorite takeout meal, and take a few bites of the salad first

Why can’t I follow my plan?? Becomes: How can I make this plan work for me this week?

Ideas:

  • Set reminders on my phone so I remember to check my plan before meals

  • Make sure I’m planning food I actually like and crave, so that following my plan becomes enjoyable

  • Remind myself that I get to eat food I actually like (not sad, boring diet food) AND lose weight, as long as I learn to listen to my body to tell me when to stop

Why can’t I ever stop eating before I’m stuffed?? → Becomes: How can I set myself up to remember when I’ve reached the point of satisfied?

Ideas:

  • Don’t let myself get overly hungry, so I’m less tempted to eat way too much way too fast

  • Set a timer to pause for a few minutes halfway through the meal to let the food settle a bit, and to assess whether I’ve had enough

  • Take a deep breath and a few sips of water when I notice I’m rushing through my meal

There are SO many possible answers available to you when you cut out the drama and put your brain to work on figuring out how to turn your roadblocks into strategies for success.
