What if weight loss could be easy?

One of the major reasons I was finally able to lose weight was because I started constantly asking myself this question:

“What if this could be easy??”

It sounds almost too simple to make an impact, right? But, trust me, this little question is MAGIC.

Diets make weight loss super complicated:

  • Follow ALL these rules

  • Eat only these foods - research all the recipes, buy the special foods, prep it all - day after day after day

  • Weigh or measure out every last little thing (and then spend all that extra time washing those teaspoons and measuring cups)

  • Track it all meticulously in the apps

  • Skip all those fun dinners, drinks with friends, backyard bbqs, etc….or risk derailing all your hard work

  • Force yourself to order the dry chicken and plain veggies when you REALLY want the pizza everyone else is having

  • Do everything perfectly otherwise you're “off plan”

No wonder we want to quit after a few weeks - that is all so much WORK.

But it doesn't have to be.

When we ditch all the BS diets and learn to lose weight just by following our body's hunger and fullness cues, we no longer have to go through ALL the mental gymnastics of trying to stick to a restrictive plan we hate.

There's so much relief in that. And yet our brains still want to make it hard.

I give my clients a VERY simple framework for weight loss:

  • Plan out your meals in advance

  • Start eating when you're hungry

  • Stop eating when you're satisfied (not stuffed)

Simple, right? But our brains were designed to overcomplicate even the simplest of things.

“But what if my family is hungry for dinner and I'm not?”

“What if I don't know what will be served?”

“What if I'm out running errands and I get hungry?”

Our brain likes to present questions like these as though they're PROBLEMS.

But each one is just a minor challenge that we can totally figure out - if we're willing to make things EASY.

How would we solve these problems if we believed that it could be easy??

When we believe that weight loss could be easy, our brain goes to work finding solutions, rather than getting stuck on problem after problem.

“What if my family is hungry for dinner and I'm not?”

  • I could sit with them and enjoy their company, and then eat later when I'm ready

  • I could eat a bit less at lunch so I'm ready to eat when my family is

  • I could eat just a small amount of dinner and stop when I feel physically satisfied.

EASY!

“What if I don't know what will be served?”

  • I can call ahead and ask

  • I can wait for hunger and stop when I'm satisfied (not stuffed) no matter what is being served

  • I can decide to eat some fruit or veggies first, and then have a reasonable portion of whatever I'm served while checking in with my body and stopping when I'm satisfied

EASY!

“What if I'm out running errands and I get hungry?”

  • I can keep a healthy snack in my purse

  • I can remind myself that a little hunger is not an emergency - the food I planned to eat will be waiting for me as soon as I get back home

  • I can choose to eat while I'm out and, from a place of empowerment, decide what the best possible option is (rather than blowing the whole day just because I'm changing up my plans)

Easy, right??

There are so many solutions out there when we're willing to look for them.

And when we believe that weight loss can be easy, solutions are so much easier to find.

So, how will you make weight loss easy this week??
